Did I know who Tyla was when I first saw this masterpiece appear on the carpet? No, but did I care? Also no, I immediately thought to myself "whoever this is, won." Balmain took a specific part of the theme "Garden of Time" and really ran with it (in the best way possible). The silhouette, the integration of actual sand in the construction, the hourglass purse, all in combination with her unreal beauty, I am in AWE. It's the perfect balance of following the theme in a unique way that is still chic, iconic, and tasteful.
The (extremely close) runner up for me was actress Elle Fanning. Balmain took a completely different approach to the theme with this look that caters to Elle's persona perfectly. It's seemingly simple at first glance due to the transparent nature of the silicone fabric, however, the closer you look, the better it gets. The bird's "dressing her" tie in the theme creatively and add the perfect touch of depth/height to the look. This neckline is also just stunning on her, especially when paired with the Cartier jewelry. Balmain really hit the nail on the head (again) with their modern Cinderella.
I somehow managed to miss Iris Law on the red carpet and I could not be more upset about it. When I saw her post this Versace look on Instagram the following day, my jaw fell to the floor. Could I be a little biased because she is one of my favorite models? Perhaps, but nonetheless, the look as a whole is still undeniably gorgeous. The first thing myself and many others took notice to was her brunette hair which was an eye-catching transformation after years of her of fans associating her with an iconic platinum blonde pixie cut. Aside from this striking transformation and her perfectly fitting glam, the dress itself is breathtaking. It's well-balanced in the sense that the simple silhouette allows for the intricate mesh cutouts, bedazzling, and whimsical design to shine. It's youthful and fun, just like Iris, and reminds me of something I would've dreamed of wearing as a child (and now).
Victoria Beckham shocked me, along with the rest of the fashion world, with her debut Met Gala look she crafted for actress Pheobe Dynevor. To me, this looks screams soft romance. The synching along the bodice is so flattering and the delicate mesh overlay with the floral panties and nipple covering peeking through is simply stunning. This well-executed dress was a looser take on the theme than others, but still feels sleeping-beauty-like and ethereal.
I could go on for providing my commentary on all of the looks from this year's Met Gala, however, I'll spare you by just highlighting a few as "Honorable Mention" with no explanation <3
