Khaite Ate.

Updated: May 9, 2024

Now that NYFW has come to a close, all the overworked & underpaid fashion students can take a moment to interpret what they just helped put on. For me, the first thing I couldn't help but notice was that the color red isn't going anywhere. Across all of the shows, pops of red were undeniably consistent.

In my opinion, Khaite executed this best by seamlessly blending it into their collection without being tacky or overdoing it (like many designers did). They focus on a deep wine shade which was the perfect integration into their primarily neutral toned aesthetic.

The show was put on in a seemingly pitch black room with only one spotlight to illuminate the models as they walked into an abyss. Some people believe this was a poor directional decision since the collection was mostly black too, however, since a lot of the pieces were leather, I think the vision worked quite well. The single flood light illuminating the leather pieces made them all pop even more and amplified the worn in, liquidy finish they chose.

Overall, it was dramatic, sexy, and mysterious, but above all, still extremely wearable. The "essentialism" trend was very evident here as well; it's almost like it was made for the woman who's going straight from her office to getting fine dined then escorted to VIP at New York's hottest lounge.
